Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) [female], Rye Meads Nature Reserve, Hertfordshire, 16/12/2007 (1 of 4) (full frame). These are some of my earliest birding photographs, when I was just learning about cameras, and hadn't quite realised the degradation in image quality that using digital zoom causes. However, in spite of their obvious flaws, this series of shots remains one of my favourites (I've deliberately left the golden colour cast from the glowing reedbed). It was my first sighting of this species. I was in the company of the St Albans RSPB group, and the reedbed was bathed in glorious winter sunshine. The little Bunting shone out as she fed on the seed heads. She was a good 50+ metres away.
