Water Rail (Rallus aquaticus), Marsworth reservoir, Nr Tring, Hertfordshire, 10/04/2013. Generally described as a secretive species, hiding away in reedbeds, only giving fleeting views as it crosses gaps in the reeds! However, this morning there were THREE birds all feeding contentedly in a fairly open area of reedbed. Eventually, this bird came right out into the open and walked towards me to fish. This is a full-frame shot, just cropped slightly for composition and adjustment of aspect ratio. The bird was no more than 10 metres from me.
