Pied Wagtail (Motacilla alba yarrelli) [male], Startop's End Reservoir, Buckinghamshire, 08/04/2013. This lovely spring male was keen to look his best and, when I arrived, was having a good preen before alighting in the shallows for a wash. On the opposite side of Startop's there were 2 Water Pipits. One looking very smart and the other still going through transition into breeding plumage. Over on Marsworth, the first Swallow of the year had arrived and I heard my first singing Chiffchaff this Spring! Car temp read 9 deg C, which felt positively warm after the previous weeks.
