Grey Plover (Pluvialis squatarola) [late winter plumage], Thorney Island, West Sussex, 05/03/2013. Distant shot, heavy crop. Spent a very enjoyable few hours walking the east shore of Thorney Island, in the hope of seeing the Red-breasted Goose on the airfield. Unfortunately, no luck with the Goose here but plenty of beautiful birds to enjoy on a lovely sunny day, including my first Bar-tailed Godwit. Other species I saw included Curlew, Dunlin, Sanderling, Oystercatcher, Avocet, Redshank, Turnstone and Red-breasted Mergansers.
