Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago), College Lake, Buckinghamshire, 03/04/2013. I went in the hope of seeing Jack Snipe but this beauty was fair compensation albeit far more common here. The car thermometer read 5 deg C but, again, it felt a lot colder thanks to the strong NE winds. This bird was busy probing the grass only a few metres in front of the hide. It's a shame it remained obscured by grass one way or another.
